Welcome to the South Gloucestershire Woodland Opportunity Mapping and Landscape Sensitivity Assessment.
This opportunity mapping, in association with guidance from the landscape sensitivity assessment, is a strategic tool designed to help inform woodland creation in South Gloucestershire, in line with the right tree, right place and right purpose principles. This website provides information on the background and policy context of the study within South Gloucestershire, and sets out the methodologies followed for both the opportunity mapping and landscape sensitivity assessment.
The opportunity mapping provides a spatial assessment of suitability for new woodland planting, including constrained areas. The landscape profiles set out the landscape sensitivity assessment account for local variations in landscape character and identify the key sensitivities of each landscape character type. The results for each component, as well as combined overall results can be viewed under section 5. Results. Best practice guidance for tree and woodland planting within South Gloucestershire is provided at Section 6. Guidance.
The mapping and guidance provided should be used in conjunction with the guiding principles and priorities set out in the Forest of Avon Plan.
